How to Install Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on HTC HD2? (Video)

How to install Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on HTC HD2? Yes, I am sure that you will ask this question if you have HTC HD2 with older Android version like 2.3 Gingerbread. Basically, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich installation on HTC HD2 is the same as previous version which use ClockworkMod Recovery CWM method. For experience ROM flasher, you can skip this tutorial. Download Android 4.0 ICS ROM and install it now. As for new comer, please stay with me by following below step by step guide to install Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on HTC HD2.

Prerequisites

  • SPL-2.08.HSPL
  • Radio that      support 576 MB RAM
  • DFT MAGLDR      Bootloader v1.13
  • ClockworkMod      Recovery v1.3

Do take your time to study these guides. Then install them one by one. You need all these components in order to use Android 4.0 ICS NAND Android.

Note – You need to use 220MB ClockworkMod Recovery partition layout for this NexusHD2 Beta10 ROM. Do refer to ROM chef for the correct CWM layout size if you install other ICS ROM.

Step by Step Guide   (Video)

  1. First      of all, copy the Android 4.0 ICS ROM zip file that you want to install      into SD card (use SD card reader or MassStg in MAGLDR).
  2. Power      on your phone and don’t let go power button.
  3. DFT      MAGLDR Bootloader will be loaded.
  4. Use      volume down button to go down to 8. AD Recovery.
  5. Then      press call button.
  6. ClockworkMod      Recovery will be loaded then.
  7. Select      wipe data/factory reset. (You can skip this step if upgrade from same ROM)
  8. Then      select Yes — delete all user data.
  9. Select      wipe cache partition. (You can skip this step if upgrade from same ROM)
  10. Then      select Yes — Wipe Cache.
  11. Go to      install zip from sdcard.
  12. Then      select choose zip from sdcard.
  13. Select      your zip file (NexusHD2-IceCreamSandwich_Beta1.zip in my video).
  14. Select      Yes – Install your zip file.
  15. Press      power button to go back.
  16. Then      reboot your phone.
  17. Android      4.0 ICS OS will be loaded then.
  18. That’s      all.

1.       How to Install HSPL4 on HTC HD2?

Want to have NAND Android or Windows Phone 7 on your HTC HD2? SPL-2.08.HSPL from DFT HSPL4 is the very first thing that you need to install. HSPL4 includes SPL-2.08.0000, SPL-2.08.HSPL, SPL-3.03.0000 and SPL-3.03.HSPL. How to Install HSPL4 on HTC HD2? And which HSPL should I install? In short, install SPL-3.03.HSPL if you want to install latest custom Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM. Or install SPL-2.08.HSPL if you want to install NAND Android or Windows Phone 7.

Prerequisites

  • Windows      Mobile Device Center installed on Windows Vista / Windows 7 or
  • ActiveSync      installed on Windows XP
  • You must      have any SPL version from this list on your device:
    • SPL-1.42.0000
    • SPL-1.62.0000
    • SPL-1.66.0000
    • SPL-2.07.0000
    • SPL-2.08.0000
    • SPL-2.10.0000
    • SPL-3.03.0000

HSPL4 should support all HTC HD2 and T-Mobile HD2 SPL version. And do make sure that you have Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync installed, else HSPL4 cannot detect your HTC HD2 in USB mode. It needs USB drivers from there.

Step by Step Guide

  1. Press volume      down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
  2. It will load      into ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen bootloader.
  3. You can see      your HTC HD2 SPL version there. 1.66.0000 XE
  4. Connect USB      cable from PC to phone.
  5. Serial      status will be turned into USB.
  6. At PC, right      click on HSPL4.exe and select ‘Run as administrator’.
  7. Click ‘Yes’      if User Access Control prompt up.
  8. Follow      onscreen instructions to install.
  9. Do make sure      that you select 2.08.HSPL.
  10. After      installation, you should see ‘We hacked it!’ on your phone.
  11. That’s all.

If everything go smooth, you should see your HTC HD2 SPL had been replaced by HSPL. Once again, do take note that Android and Windows Phone 7 only work on SPL-2.08.HSPL. Not SPL-3.03.HSPL.

2. How to Install Custom Radio v2.15 ROM on HTC HD2?

Both T-Mobile HD2 and HTC HD2 have 576 MB physical RAM but HTC HD2 was reduced by software to 512 MB only. Radio v2.07 and above can unlock it to use 576 MB. Why do you need to install custom radio ROM that supports 576 MB? NAND Android and Windows Phone 7 need it. You need to have correct radio ROM in order to use NAND Android and Windows Phone 7. Just follow step by step video guide to install it.

Prerequisites

  • SPL-2.08.HSPL

In order to install custom radio ROM, you need to have HSPL installed on your HTC HD2. Follow this guide ~ How to Install HSPL4 on HTC HD2? to install. I used the latest radio ROM 2.15.50.14 in the video guide. You can use it or any other HTC HD2 Radio ROM version that support 576 MB.

Step by Step Guide

  1. Press volume      down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
  2. It will load      into ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen bootloader.
  3. You can see      your HTC HD2 SPL version there.
  4. Connect USB      cable from PC to phone.
  5. Serial      status will be turned into USB.
  6. At PC, right      click on CustomRUU.exe and select ‘Run as administrator’.
  7. Click ‘Yes’      if User Access Control prompt up.
  8. Follow      onscreen instructions to install.
  9. Phone will      be rebooted after installation finished.
  10. That’s all.

You should able to see R 2.15.50.14 at bottom of the screen with green HTC Logo if you still have Windows Mobile 6.5 on your HTC HD2.

3. How to Install MAGLDR v1.13 on HTC HD2? —

DFT LEO MAGLDR Bootloader is the bootloader that supports NAND Android and Windows Phone 7. Both HTC HD2 and T-Mobile HD2 are supported in MAGLDR v1.13. The latest MAGLDR v1.13 supports Android Recovery (AD Recovery) which put ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) in NAND memory instead of SD card. How to Install MAGLDR on HTC HD2? Just follow my step by step video guide to install.

Note – Your operation system like Windows Mobile 6.5 will be deleted when you install MAGLDR. Everything in your phone will be deleted. Do make a backup if you want to keep them. Do transfer all the data like contacts, calendar, SMS out first before install MAGLDR.

1.       How to Install ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 on HTC HD2? (Video)

ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) for HTC HD2 is a must installed tool as most of the NAND Android ROMs are in CWM zip format. You need to use ClockworkMod Recovery to install these zip ROMs from SD card. Besides, ClockworkMod Recovery can make full system backup and restore using Nandroid. ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 will be installed into NAND memory, therefore MAGLDR v1.13 is needed. Please follow step by step video guide to install it.

There are 3 partition layout sizes for ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 ~ 150MB, 250MB and 400MB. Which partition layout size of ClockworkMod Recovery should I use? Depending on what type of ROM that you plan to use, you should choose the partition size based on the following.

  • 150MB      Partition – For bare ROM including CyanogenMod, AOSP, and MIUI
  • 250MB Partition – For Android      4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Standard Sense ROM including Desire and EVO based ROM, can      also be used for some squashed HD builds
  • 400MB      Partition – For Larger ROM including unsquashed Desire HD and Z ROM

Note
– For Windows XP users, follow this guide to fix USB init failed ~ Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (723) issue.
– ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 only work on MAGLDR v1.13 and not older version.

Step by Step Guide

  1. Power on      your phone and don’t let go power button.
  2. DFT MAGLDR      Bootloader will be loaded.
  3. Use volume      down button to go down to 5. USB Flasher.
  4. Then press      call button to load USB Flasher mode.
  5. Connect USB      cable from PC to phone.
  6. You should      see Wait USB…USB.
  7. At PC, right      click on DAF.exe and select ‘Run as administrator’.
  8. Click ‘Yes’      if User Access Control prompt up.
  9. Follow      onscreen instructions to install.
  10. Phone will      be rebooted after installation finished.
  11. DFT MAGLDR      Bootloader will be loaded then.
  12. Disconnect      USB cable from phone.
  13. Use volume      down button to go down to 8. AD Recovery.
  14. Then press      call button.
  15. ClockworkMod      Recovery will be loaded then.
  16. That’s all.

Remember to check with ROM chef if you not sure which ClockworkMod Recovery partition size to use. Just repeat above steps if you need to change to other partition size.

Note – The bigger CWM partition layout you select, the lesser internal storage you will get.
